Danish National Vocal Ensemble

Since their debut the Danish National Vocal Ensemble 18 fulltime professional singers have grappled with everything from early music and the Baroque to Romantic works and demanding contemporary music. Works that require strong, individual performances stand high on the agenda of the Danish National Vocal Ensemble. The 18 singers are all trained soloists who bring expression and life to the music. It’s all about personal commitment and razor-sharp precision, whether in modern works like Messiaen’s frantic Cinq Rechants for 12 solo voices with tuning fork, or in Orlando di Lasso’s polyphonic masterworks from the sixteenth century. The Danish National Vocal Ensemble has a close relationship with Danish and Nordic contemporary music, for example the music of Per Nørgård, just as the Swedish peer of choral composers Sven-David Sandström has written especially for the ensemble. The Danish National Vocal Ensemble is a flexible choir that can perform at full strength or in smaller groupings. The choir can be expanded with the 56 singers of the Danish National Concert Choir and the Vocal Ensemble is also pleased to collaborate with other ensembles. The Danish National Vocal Ensemble has sung with among others Concerto Copenhagen, the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic and NDR in Hamburg. Their Chief conductor is Olof Boman and they collaborate also with guest conductors, including Paul van Nevel, Peter Dijkstra and Marcus Creed.
